About the School and Band Program

Madison Central High School is located in Madison, Mississippi, a suburb north of Jackson. MCHS, a part of the Madison County School District, is a consolidated county school drawing students from South Madison County, including the cities of Madison and Flora. The area’s convenient location, strong school system, and high property values contribute to the quality of life that makes South Madison County one of the most rapidly developing communities within the United States, according to the 2010 U.S. Census. Family Circle Magazine named Madison one of their “10 Best Cities for Families” in 2007. Madison has also been cited as one of the best places to live by CNN/Money Magazine.

With 1,214 students enrolled in grades 10-12, MCHS is one of the largest public high schools in the state. Madison Central was recognized as one of the “Top Ten Best High Schools in America” by Redbook magazine, which considered such factors as superior academic and extra-curricular achievement coupled with parental and community involvement.

Madison Central students participate in various community service activities. However, Madison Central focuses on five school-wide community service projects: Disaster Relief, Food for Families canned food drive, Toys for Tots, Relay-for-Life, and Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Celebrating its 32nd year this school year, the Madison Central Bands Program is home to over 550 students in grades 6 through 12. At Madison Central high school, students are able to participate in 3 ability-based concert bands, jazz band, winter guard, and percussion ensemble. Our curriculum promotes individual and ensemble skills and provides extensive opportunities for performance in both areas. The band is fortunate to offer comprehensive private lesson studios for our students. The “Jaguar Marching Band” encompasses all students in the band program and performs at football games, parades, and other local events. For the past 32 years, the Madison Central Band has created a tradition of excellence for all of its performing ensembles. The marching band participated in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade and won 1st place, the Symphonic band performed in Carnegie Hall, and the band performed for President George W. Bush on his first visit to the State of Mississippi as President. The marching band won first place at the Hoover Marching Band Invitational in 2016, 2018, and 2019. The marching band also won the 1st Place Governor’s Cup at the Pearl Marching Band Invitational from 1998-2010. The Symphonic Band performed at the Mississippi Bandmasters Association State Band Clinic in 2011 under the direction of Duncan Goff.
